Why I love teaching: I love teaching for many reasons! Teaching gives me the opportunity to not only spend time with children on a daily basis, but it allows me the unique opportunity to interact with them, challenge them, and most importantly, teach them something new. Teaching is exciting, fun, and rewarding. I feel privileged to work at FSA and teach in such a strong academic environment in which I am encouraged and challenged daily to think of new, creative, and stimulating lessons in order to instill in my students a sense of excitement about Georgia Studies. With teaching, no day is ever the same. Each school day has its own challenges and experiences, and this keeps life fun and entertaining! Being a teacher is a blessing to me, and I love the enthusiasm and positive energy the students bring into my life each and every day. It is a joy to work with these students, and it is rewarding to see them grow academically throughout the year.
My Bio: I am originally from Huntsville, Alabama. I attended Auburn University (War Eagle!) for my undergraduate degree in Secondary Social Science Education and then received my Master of Arts in Teaching degree from the University of West Alabama. I have been living in Atlanta for almost 2 ½ years and love everything about living in the big city. I am getting married in June, so when I’m not wedding planning, I enjoy spending my free time shopping, spending time with friends, watching sports, going to church, and hanging out with my fiancé.

TORONTO, CAN -Fulton Science Academy Middle School 7th grader, Emily Barber, traveled with her ice hockey team to Toronto, Canada over the holiday break to compete in an international hockey tournament in which she was the only female in the entire field of 36 teams. The Atlanta Knights were also the only team from the United States to compete in the tournament and did exceptionally well, missing the round robin finals of the tournament by only one goal!
Emily played the goaltending position and played every minute of the tournament for her team. While the average number of shots for a game is under 30, Emily averaged over 45 saves per game for a total of almost 200 saves in 3 days to win the tournament Most Valuable Player Award!
FSA Principal, Kenan Sener, commented, “We could not be more proud of Emily for this outstanding accomplishment! She does very well at FSA and now has shown her achievements on the international level as well.”
